Report on anniversary and launching of Association of Para Athletics and Power Lifting Ashanti Region.

Introduction

The life stories of most people have been hidden due to the fact that, there has not been the opportunity for them to so. In view of the, life histories, stories, and experience of persons with disabilities are untold since they are not given the opportunities to do so. This, gave birth to ‘MY TESTIMONY’ (M’DANSEDIE) one year ago on Spirit FM Kumasi and its now broadcasted on Sunsum FM Kumasi.  This could not had been possible with the efforts of Association of Para Athletics and Para lifting, Ashanti Region. Association of Para Athletics and Para lifting, Ashanti Region formerly known as Physically Challenged Wheelchair and Track And Field Association, Ashanti Region, is a group of disabled sports Athletes and Para lifters who participate in of Para Athletics, Power Lifting, blind sports, amputee sports and other disability sports events in Ghana. My testimony celebrates a year of existence and Association of Para Athletics and Para lifting, Ashanti Region launches the association.

Objectives of the Anniversary and Launching Of Association of Para Athletics and Power Lifting Ashanti Region.

  1. To thank God for the educative, motivational, and encouraging moments and using the testimonies to bless both persons with disabilities and non-disabled persons.
  2. To challenge all that, disability is not inability and disabled persons sharing their lives testimony to encourage others.
  3. To assure the broken hearted, the less privileged and the outcast that not all hope is lost.
  4. To invite all stakeholders on board for support and to create mutual benefits.
  5. To inaugurated the executives of the association.
  6. To appeal for funds for the association.
  7. To let Ghanaians know that,
  • We are the backbone of Para Sports in Ghana
  • We are the hope of Para Athletics in Ghana
  • We are prepared for all All African Games 2023
  • Politicians need our vote, but they reject us
  • They shouldn’t see us a burden to the country and
  • We need sports equity and equality in a Ghana.

On the Day of the Anniversary And Launching of Association of Para Athletics and Power Lifting Ashanti Region.

The anniversary and launching of association of para athletics and power lifting, Ashanti region was held on 21 November at the Sunsum FM (premises of Kapital Radio) with a total number of forty seven (49) people.

  4. Persons with disabilities including who have been on My Testimony Reality program, those who have been following the program and those who wish to share their testimonies.

Activities

The opportunity was given to some disabled men and women who present at the occasion to share their heartwarming testimonies to encourage and motivate others.

2.     Live Broadcast on Sunsum FM

The speeches of some invited dignitaries were streamed live on My testimony reality show on Sunsum FM 98.7. Speeches that were streamed live are the speeches of:

  • Honourable I.K. Acheampong and Honourable James Owusu Boakye representatives of Maor of the city of Kumasi and representatives of youth and sports committee Kumasi metropolitan assembly.

Won numerous medals won by the associations sports men and women were displayed.  

Donations

  1. There was a pledge of an amount of GH₵ 2000 from the representatives of representatives of Mayor of the city of Kumasi and representatives of youth and sports committee Kumasi metropolitan assembly.
  2. N.T.K of N.T.K Ventures donated an amount of GH₵ 2000 cash. 

Challenges

  1. At the initial stage of planning and organizing of the anniversary and launching, and on the day of the anniversary and launching, most people especially sports men and women were not ready to assist the executives there by making work tedious for the organizers.
  2. The anniversary and launching could not begin on time due to lateness
  3. Disappoints form invited dignitaries and media houses.
  4. The association could not afford transport for sports men and women, meals and drink for all persons present, buying, and printing of t-shit because of insufficient funds.
  5. Disappointments from sponsors.
  6. Unavailability of transport facilities for sports men and women made it difficult for sports men and women to arrival at the venue for the event.

Feedbacks

According to reports form all those present for the anniversary and launching, and the anniversary and launching was successful organized, the testimonies and speeches from the speakers has really motivated the associations’ sports men and women. 

Recommendations

  1. It has been recommended that, there should be sharing of duties (division of Labor) when such events are been organized.
  2. Availability of transport facilities for sports men and women next time such an event is organized.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there is the need for us all to exert our maximum support for para athletics, Para lifters blind sports, amputee sports and other disability in, Ashanti Region.  Giving all persons with disabilities the chance to live to the fullest in society and maximize their potentials in developing our communities and country as a whole through Para supports in Ghana.
